On the afternoon of April 16, 2018, at the invitation of the Department of Earthquake Science, Prof. Tong Hengmao, School of Earth Science, China University of Petroleum (Beijing), delivered a report entitled "New Theory of Geomechanics - Generalized Shear Activity Criterion and Generalized Fault Mode" to the teachers and students of Mingde Building (Tangshan Hall). Some teachers and students from the Department of Earthquake Science and the Department of Geological Engineering attended the meeting.

Prof. Tong Hengmao is a professor and doctoral supervisor of School of Earth Science, China University of Petroleum (Beijing). He is a member of GSA, AGU, AAPG, visiting scholar of UCLA, and director of China Geoscience and Philosophy Committee. He is mainly engaged in basin structural analysis and reservoir structural fracture research. He has published more than 80 papers in journals at home and abroad, such as Tetonophysics, Journal of Structural Geology, Chinese Science, etc., with more than 200 SCI citations.

Prof. Tong's report explained the new theories and methods of structural geology, such as "Moore Space" theory, "Generalized Shear" theory and "Generalized Fault Model" in simple terms. Teachers and students attending the meeting had active exchanges and discussions with Professor Tong, and said they benefit a lot from Prof. Tong’s report.
