Good News: IDP has Become an International Cooperation Unit of UNESCO-Chair on Geo-environmental Disaster Reduction

From April 21 to April 22, 2018, the UNESCO Chair 2018 Workshop on Geo Disaster Reduction was held in Yichang, Hubei Province. Professor Bo Jingshan, consultant of ICGDR Association, Professor Shen Jun, director of the association, Dr. Li Ping, Secretary of the association and Dr. Su zhandong attended the meeting.

At the meeting, Professor Wang Fawu, professor of the UNESCO Chair project on geological and environmental disaster reduction, officially awarded the Certificate of International Cooperation Unit of the Institute. Professor Bo Jingshan and Professor Shen Jun were employed as communication professors of UNESCO Chair project of geological environment disaster reduction for three years. During the meeting, experts and scholars at the meeting exchanged and discussed the latest research results and future work plan of earthquake and geological disaster reduction.

The UNITWIN / UNESCO Chair project was officially established in 1992 based on the resolution of the 26th General Conference of UNESCO. The project aims to promote the development of higher education in research, training and curriculum project system through the establishment of university network and the encouragement of inter university cooperation, so as to enhance the educational and scientific research capacity of international universities and scientific research institutions. At present, there are 170 teaching posts in the field of natural science. UNESCO Chair on geo-environmental disaster reduction is one of the UNITWIN / UNESCO chairs for geo-environmental disasters. The chair is committed to promoting global cooperation in education and scientific research on geo- environmental disaster reduction.

Based on the long-term, extensive and in-depth international cooperation between IDP and the International Association for Geological Disasters and Disaster Reduction (ICGDR), in March 2017, the then president, Professor Bo Jingshan, signed a letter of support and commitment as a collaboration unit, and vigorously supported the establishment of UNESCO Chair on Geo-environmental disaster reduction as the chairman institution of Japan's national Shimbun University and ICGDR. In October 2017, the project was officially approved, marking that IDP has become the cooperative unit of the project.

Based on the UNESCO Chair project platform, the cooperation units will carry out extensive and in-depth international cooperation, which will effectively promote the process of international demonstration college of geological engineering and related majors, and greatly improve the domestic influence and international reputation in the field of disaster prevention and mitigation.
