IDP Providing Technical Support to Emergency Response of Songyuan Earthquake

At 01:50 on May 28, 2018, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.7 occurred in Ningjiang district, Songyuan City, Jilin Province, with a focal depth of 13 km. The epicenter was located at 124.71 ° E and 45.27 ° N. After the earthquake, Seismological Bureau of Songyuan City adopted the "Songyuan Earthquake Disaster Deduction System" developed by IDP to quickly study and judge the earthquake disaster, and the analysis results were obtained in less than 2 minutes.

The system accurately analyzes that the maximum intensity of the earthquake is 8 degrees, the diameter of the impact area is about 20 kilometers; the diameter of the influence area with the intensity of 7 degrees is about 40 kilometers; the diameter of the influence area with the intensity of 6 degrees is about 80 kilometers; a small number of dangerous buildings near the earthquake source may collapse and cause more than 100 people slight injuries and a small number of serious injuries. In the urban area, more than half of the infilled walls of the frame buildings will crack obviously, and a few parapets and chimneys will fall off. Cracks may appear in the walls and corners of some brick concrete buildings.

Songyuan Earthquake Disaster Deduction System is provided by Prof. Guo Xun of the Disaster Prevention Engineering Department. The research and development team led by Huang Meng, associate professor of Disaster Information Engineering Department,independently developed and completed the system. The teachers of the Disaster Prevention Engineering Department are responsible for field investigation. The system has carried out rapid calculation and provided accurate analysis results in Ningjiang district, Songyuan City, Jilin Province at 7:13 on July 23, 2017, and 4.3 earthquake occurred in Qianguo County, Songyuan City (45.29 degrees north latitude, 124.65 degrees east longitude) at 20:21 on January 4, 2018. The system has provided technical support for earthquake emergency work and won the unanimous praise of leaders and experts of Seismological Bureau of Songyuan City.
